Decode the Zeitgeist with 1440

Every week, 1440 zooms in on a single society-and-culture phenomenon—be it the rise of Saturday Night Live, Dystopian Literature, or the history of the Olympics—and unpacks it with curiosity-driven rigor. You’ll get a concise read grounded in verified facts, peppered with thought-provoking context and links for deeper exploration. No partisan angles, no fear-mongering—just the stories, trends, and ideas shaping how we live, work, and create.

NEW! GUESS THE GAME?

NEW! - I thought it would be a good idea to introduce a weekly game for us to play -especially considering the email is about finding games for us all to play lol.

The idea is to guess what the game is based on the above 3 images.

Each image is a screenshot from the game. It may include environments, UI elements, characters etc.

If you know the answer, reply to this email and I’ll reply with the correct answer.

Also, let me know if you like this idea or not. A weekly game feels like a good direction for the newsletter. 🙂

Game #1 - DELTARUNE

“A PARALLEL STORY TO UNDERTALE!” - TOBY FOX

GENRE: STORY RICH, GREAT SOUNDTRACK, PIXEL GRAPHICS, 2D

AVAILABLE PLATFORMS: PC, MAC, STEAM DECK, SWITCH, SWITCH 2, PS5, PS4

What an amazing week for indie games. We’ve been blessed with a follow up to the indie cult classic UNDERTALE.

This has been years in the making and seems to have lived up to the extremely high expectations.

DELTARUNE is the wild, heartwarming, and slightly unhinged follow-up to UNDERTALE—but don’t worry, you don’t need to play one to enjoy the other.

You play as Kris, a human kid thrown into a mysterious world full of quirky characters, shady prophecies, and enemies you can either fight or hug into submission.

Team up with troublemaker Susie and the wholesome goat-boy Ralsei as you dodge bullets, make questionable decisions, and try to save a world you barely understand.

With turn-based combat mixed with chaotic bullet-dodging, a massive soundtrack by Toby Fox, and the same goofy charm that made UNDERTALE a cult classic, DELTARUNE leans harder into party-based strategy, storytelling, and surprise.

And yes—you can still spare everyone, if your reflexes are fast enough and your heart big enough.

Chapters 1–4 are out now, with more to come for free.

Game #2 - PRISON OF HUSKS

PSX SOULS-LIKE? YES PLEASE.

GENRE: ADVENTURE, EXPLORATION, SOULS-LIKE, RETRO, 3D

AVAILABLE PLATFORMS: TO BE ANNOUNCED

PRISON OF HUSKS is still currently in development but I wanted to bring it to your attention so you can follow the development and get as excited to play it as I am.

PRISON OF HUSKS is a moody, beautifully painted Souls-like where you awaken as a doll in a crumbling afterlife, chasing after a lost love in a world that’s falling apart at the seams.

It’s got the combat you’d expect—parries, stamina management, and stylish dodges—but also throws in pistols, customizable builds, and secrets galore.

This isn’t just about fighting monsters. It’s about love, longing, and unraveling a faded paradise one shortcut at a time.

You can explore at your own pace, defeat bosses in any order, and fine-tune your playstyle with rings and brooches to suit how you want to approach danger—aggressive, methodical, or somewhere in between.

Whether you're weaving through tight, looping level design or facing off against pigment-hoarding bosses standing in your way, PRISON OF HUSKS wears its inspirations on its sleeve but paints a hauntingly romantic world all its own.

I’m in love with how the game looks and I can’t wait to get lost in its world.

Game #3 - RATSHAKER

SHAKE THE RAT, FEEL THE RELIEF

GENRE: PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR, HORROR, EXPLORATION, FUNNY

AVAILABLE PLATFORMS: PC

RATSHAKER™ is exactly what it sounds like—and so much weirder. You grab a rat, you shake it, and somehow... all your problems start to melt away.

It’s bizarre, chaotic, strangely therapeutic, and aggressively committed to its joke.

The more you shake, the higher your meter climbs, and the deeper you spiral into absurd rat-shaking bliss.

There’s no real goal except the existential need to keep going. It's part joke, part ritual, part cosmic horror disguised as pest control.

Whether you’re chasing high scores or just trying to exorcise your inner demons through increasingly aggressive rodent rattling, this surreal fever dream delivers pure cursed energy.

If you appreciate absurd and thrilling adventures, then I think you’ll really like it!

Game #4 - Growing My Grandpa!

ONE FOR THE CRONENBERG FANS!

GENRE: ADVENTURE, STORY RICH, PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR, DARK

AVAILABLE PLATFORMS: PC

In Growing My Grandpa!, you play as Adrienne—a quiet, lonely kid who stumbles on something deeply weird in her basement: a gross little science experiment that might actually be her “Grandpa.” It eats, it talks, and it grows... fast. Like, disturbingly fast.

This is a dark, twisted point-and-click adventure with some virtual pet vibes, where the more you nurture your strange new "relative," the more you uncover about the creepy scientific horrors hiding beneath your house. The deeper you dig, the stranger it gets—with a heavy dose of body horror, cursed nostalgia, and emotional gut punches.

What starts as a sad kid’s fantasy of family quickly turns into a Cronenberg-style nightmare, where every decision you make might lead to love… or something far more monstrous.

An underrated gem for anyone who loves a story rich but also dark adventure game.

Game #5 - STRAFTAT

1V1 ME BRO

GENRE: ACTION, SHOOTER, FPS, FREE TO PLAY, MULTIPLAYER

AVAILABLE PLATFORMS: PC, MAC, LINUX,

I discovered this game after watching the entertaining Youtube video by Will Willson called “How I Became the Best in a Game You’ve Never Heard of“ (watch here).

I grew up playing 1v1s on MW2’s Rust, so I’ll always have a soft spot for any 1v1 game.

STRAFTAT is a fast-paced, free-to-play 1v1 FPS where it’s just you, your rival, and way too many maps.

Each round is quick, intense, and set in a brand-new arena with different weapons scattered around. Guns, grenades, axes—whatever you can grab first.

You’ll chat (or trash talk) using proximity voice, pick up drip by completing weird challenges, and jump into any of the 150 chaotic maps.

Win the round by being the last one standing. Then do it all again, somewhere new, probably while yelling at your buddy through a mic.

Not only is STRAFTAT innovative and incredibly fun, it is free to play.

So if you want a new addiction for this weekend, download it and get taken back to the golden days of 1v1 me bro.
