Game #1 - Mage Arena

USING VOICE CHAT TO CAST SPELLS = HILARIOUS

GENRE: EARLY ACCESS, ACTION, DARK FANTASY, MAGIC, PvP

AVAILABLE ON: PC

Mage Arena is definitely going to be the next R.E.P.O / Lethal Company Co-op Game!

You’ve probably seen some hilarious clips on social media, but you and your friends have to run around battling each other as sorcerers vs warlocks whilst casting voice activated spells.

The main game mode is essentially capture the flag and you can play with up to players (4v4). There is also a 1v1 arena mode.

Having voice controlled spell casting is a genius mechanic that makes playing this a complete blast!

There will be tons of screaming, spells back firing, shouting and hilarity - I promise!

It’s only $2.49 right now as it is early access + there were some bugs on launch so the devs have reduced the price until the bugs have been fixed.

One thing to note, is that the voice recognition is North American centric so if you aren’t from North America then the spells you cast aren’t always accurate / you can be at a disadvantage.

This can also add to the fun, but it is worth noting. I hope the devs will look at improving the voice recognition for non-native english speakers and my Scottish friends.

Game #2 - BULLETS PER MINUTE

YOU CAN ONLY DEAL DAMAGE IN TIME WITH THE BEAT

GENRE: FPS, RHYTHM, ROGUELIKE, ACTION, INDIE

AVAILABLE ON: PC, STEAM DECK

I had heard of Bullets Per Minute before, but for some reason it didn’t really grab my attention.

However, I was wrong to ignore it!

I came across some gameplay on Youtube and decided to try it out and I had a lot of fun.

The concept is simple. It’s a rhythm FPS, similar to Doom Eternal, but the twist is that you can only deal damage to enemies when you time your shot with the beat.

This turns out to be a really addictive and satisfying mechanic that I love!

It can be tricky to get used at first, but BPM really was a lot of fun.

It is also a roguelike, so it is highly replayable and easy to start a run when you feel like it.

If you like rhythm based games, then this is a must play in my opinion.

Game #3 - Gambonanza

THEY’VE GIVEN THE BALATRO TREATMENT TO CHESS

GENRE: STRATEGY, CHESS, BOARD GAME, ROGUELIKE, ROGUELITE, TURN-BASED TACTICS, 2D, PIXEL GRAPHICS

AVAILABLE ON: WINDOWS, MAC, LINUX

I came across Gambonanza’s launch trailer on Youtube and thought I’d share it with you all today.

It is essentially a Chess roguelike deckbuilder with some extra changes!

Your aim isn’t just to capture the king, instead you have to capture as many pieces as you can.

You’ll earn power ups that will give new abilities to your pieces like bishops exploding upon death or pawns being able to shoot lasers.

Combining different power ups will give you huge advantages and allow for different styles of play.

Each board is procedurally generated, so you’ll need to work out how to best use your collection of pieces for the chess board presented to you.

Additionally, the board can be upgraded and changed which makes the playing field a lot more interesting than your usual 8×8 board.

Gambonanza doesn’t have a release date yet, but you should definitely wishlist / keep an eye on it if you like Balatro.

Game #4 - Scanner Sombre

UNIQUE LIDAR HORROR!

GENRE: EXPLORATION, HORROR, STORY, WALKING SIMULATOR, ATMOSPHERIC, INDIE, ADVENTURE, FIRST‑PERSON

AVAILABLE ON: WINDOWS, MACOS, STEAMOS + LINUX, STEAM DECK (PARTIAL CONTROLLER SUPPORT)

Scanner Sombre turns you into an explorer armed with a LIDAR scanner, navigating pitch-black caverns where daylight never reaches.

As you beam rainbow-colored point clouds onto the void, each scan reveals new scenes and information about what went on before you arrived.

Shadows twist, echoes haunt and you slowly piece together hidden histories while mapping the abyss.

This another great example of how indie games are reinvented what we expect from video games.

I love this concept and can’t stress enough how effective revealing a world piece by piece is for a horror game.

Game #5 - Pip My Dice

CUSTOMIZE YOUR DICE, BREAK THE GAME

GENRE: ROGUELIKE DECKBUILDER, STRATEGY, DICE, DECKBUILDING, ROGUELIKE, CASUAL, ROGUELITE

AVAILABLE ON: WINDOWS, STEAM DECK

Pip My Dice is a Yahtzee roguelike deckbuilder! What I like the most about Yahtzee is that you roll dice and then you decide how to organize the outcome / how you want to play the hand you rolled.

In my Pip My Dice, you roll dice, try to hit high scores and level up to survive increasingly brutal rounds. But here’s the twist: you can fully customize your dice - like, every face of every die - and stack relics to trigger game-breaking combos.

If you've ever wanted to rig your luck and feel clever doing it, this is your game.
